New Yorkie Runway Show: Who Let the Dogs Out!

I’m going to my first High Fashion Runway Show in New York City.

The models will be wearing sequins and tulle and maybe shoes. There will be bright lights, music, champagne and water bowls. The famous and not-so famous will snack on canapés and nose around the liver treats.

The puparazzi will be out in to capture the magic of the 3rd Annual New Yorkie Doggie Runway Show on February 7th at the New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan.

You read that correctly, the New YorKIE Runway Show, where talented and dedicated canine models will strut their stuff showing off the latest doggie fashion wear from New Yorkie Products.

For the third straight year, the New York canine community and their groupies are coming together to raise funds for the Angel On A Leash charity.

Angel On A Leash creates the best therapy dog programs in health care facilities and other settings across the country.  For more information about Angel On A Leash check out their website:  http://www.angelonaleash.org or read David Frei's touching  book of the same name.

David Frei (the voice of the Westminster Dog Show and a registered therapy dog owner) and Elly McGuire (designer of New Yorkie Fashion Products) will emcee the high energy event. Miss 2011 Miss America Alyssa Campanella will host.

Schmitty the Weather Dog and Beefy the Skateboarding Dog are a few of the celebrity canines who will walk the runway getting ear rubs from dog owners like Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul and Mary), weatherman Ron Trotta, Celebrity Chef Sean Olnowich and several dog-gone loving  Real Housewives of New York City.

I am so excited I want to run around and chase my tail…if I had one.

Question: What does one wear to a Doggie Runway Show?

Stay tuned…

New York, New York!! Day One and Two

I love New York. And I love being in New York with good friends and Jerry. We just have the best time!!!. Peg flew in from Ohio, Colleen from New Hampshire, Linda trained in from Princeton, Em and Sue drove in on Tuesday, Caryl, Mariadela, Marda, Linda V, Marcie, and Terry drove in on Wednesday for the day. Girlfriends from all over! (and guitar duck...photos to follow once I'm home...I forgot my memory card reader).

Tuesday we went to the Kips Bay Design House at 66th and 2nd Ave on the Upper East side. 6 apartments turned over to Manhattan designers...some a bit bizarre(one appeared to have stucks thousands of bent pins into the ceiling for decorations)...many not very user friendly...but a few were interestingly lovely. One apartment turned out to be the apartment of Daniel Boulud...of manhattan restaurant fame (cafe Boulud, Daniel's, DB Bistro moderne). Appropriately it was almost just one big kitchen and dining area!. The man himself was there and perhaps not surprisingly for a successful manhattan chef and restauranteur...he had not parked his ego at the door. He even had a mural of himself in the entrance way .

Tuesday evening we ate at Artisanal on 32nd near Park Avenue. GREAT meal! Peg's mussels were the most tender I've ever tasted. The hanger steak and frites were perfect. Em's spring vegetable risotto was refreshing and not too heavy. The cheese plate for dessert (Artisanal is famous for it's cheeses) was perfect...we all agreed the Humboldt Fog goat cheese was fabulous. But the Tarte Tatin...was sublime...perfect after the cheese. Wine menu was extensive and had quite a few reasonably priced bottles...a nice surprise.

Thoughts of visiting our favorite bartender, Colin, at the Rainbow room vanished with our completely full stomachs and the results of all the wine. A cab ride was all we had the energy for!

Wednesday was Wawa day...when we all met for the Theatre and lunch (although one car load got stuck in a gigantic traffic jam trying to get through the Lincoln Tunnel). We had lunch at Ruby foo's one of our favorite places for Wawa lunchs (good food, easy location, and great large round table perfect for catching up on everyone's lives). For theatre we saw, Country Girl with morgan freeman, frances mcdourmand, and peter gallagher (yes, there is life after The OC). it's a revival of a Clifford Odett's play (made famous by GraceKelley, William Holden, and Bing Crosby as a movie). It was a very good play. A few thought the first act was a bit slow but not because of the acting which was first rate. Really good.

Then it was back to food again...drinks at the marriott marquis on Times Square where the Cosmo was 18 dollars????? I shudder to think of what drink prices have gone up to at the Rainbow Room. We at at Caramia on 9th (between 46th and 45th). Excellent homemade pastas, the chicken special was exactly that...special...not just another chicken dish. service was attentive and very pleasant. wine by the glass selection was good.

All in all a great day.

Peg, Colleen, jerry and i are still in the city until tomorrow. so check back for continuing adventures in manhattan.

New York, New York

Jerry and I spent 3 days in Manhattan with Peg and Moe Cotter. We saw a preview performance of Mel Brook's new musical "Young Frankenstein" which is a MUST SEE! Especially if you liked the movie...it's very true to the movie...but even more so! We also saw a preview performance of The Farnsworth Invention with Hank Azaria. It is a serious drama about the invention of the TV by Philo Fransworth, a farm boy/whiz kid from Idaho and the birth of the radio and TV age. It is written by Aaron Sorkin (West Wing, Sports Night, etc) and is fascinating, informative and entertaining. We saw Billy Crystal and his wife (3 rows behind Jerry) and several of the MSNBC crowd there. We had dinner one night at our old favorite Ruby Foo's...good food...try the fried calamari! another night we went to Joe Allen's and had a delightful meal (still laughing about the previous nights performance of Young Frankenstein). here's a picture of Jerry and I enjoying our dinner at Joe Allen's.
