New Yorkie Runway Show: Who Let the Dogs Out!

I’m going to my first High Fashion Runway Show in New York City.

The models will be wearing sequins and tulle and maybe shoes. There will be bright lights, music, champagne and water bowls. The famous and not-so famous will snack on canapés and nose around the liver treats.

The puparazzi will be out in to capture the magic of the 3rd Annual New Yorkie Doggie Runway Show on February 7th at the New Yorker Hotel in Manhattan.

You read that correctly, the New YorKIE Runway Show, where talented and dedicated canine models will strut their stuff showing off the latest doggie fashion wear from New Yorkie Products.

For the third straight year, the New York canine community and their groupies are coming together to raise funds for the Angel On A Leash charity.

Angel On A Leash creates the best therapy dog programs in health care facilities and other settings across the country.  For more information about Angel On A Leash check out their website:  http://www.angelonaleash.org or read David Frei's touching  book of the same name.

David Frei (the voice of the Westminster Dog Show and a registered therapy dog owner) and Elly McGuire (designer of New Yorkie Fashion Products) will emcee the high energy event. Miss 2011 Miss America Alyssa Campanella will host.

Schmitty the Weather Dog and Beefy the Skateboarding Dog are a few of the celebrity canines who will walk the runway getting ear rubs from dog owners like Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul and Mary), weatherman Ron Trotta, Celebrity Chef Sean Olnowich and several dog-gone loving  Real Housewives of New York City.

I am so excited I want to run around and chase my tail…if I had one.

Question: What does one wear to a Doggie Runway Show?

Stay tuned…

A Special Treat on Broadway

Colleen and I spent the afternoon with Peg at Macy's (you haven't lived until you've seen Peg's eyes light up when she enters the "pretty" shoe department on Floor 5 at Macy's. ) Honest...when we asked for directions to shoes the Macy's employee asked if we were interested in the comfortable shoes or pretty shoes!!!!

Then after a much needed nap (tuckered out from our adventures in the subway, exploring St. John the Divine, and elbowing our way through a Macy's shoe sale) we set off with Jerry for dinner and a Broadway show. Dinner was at a very good Thai restaurant, Wondee Siam at 792 9th Ave. It is a small "cash only" restuarant (seats only 20). The food was very good and the menu was varied and although it had many of the "staples" of a Thai restaurant it also had a number of less traditional items. Service was very efficient and friendly. It's a BYO...so if you want a beer with your spicy noodles...better bring it with you.

After dinner we walked to the newly renovated Longacre Theatre on 48th Street (between 8th and 7th) to see Boeing, Boeing starring Christine Baranski, Bradley Whitford, Mary McCormack,
Mark Rylance, and Gina Gershon. It was a very funny, VERY funny play. Loved it and was very happy to be able to score some last minute tickets. (Thanks David for telling us about it).

The Big Apple - Day Three

The Cafe Edison (or as we and New York regulars call it the Polish Tea room). This is a great New York diner located in the Edison Hotel on 47th street between Broadway and 8th. It is a bustling, formica-topped tabled, 3 meal a day diner that serves great corned beef, good tuna salad, fabulous breakfasts, and the BEST matzo ball soup. (apparently great gefilte fish too, if that is your pleasure)
(to the left...Jerry reading the morning paper at Cafe Edison)

The Cafe Edison was long the favorite haunt of Neil Simon (he apparently loved the matzoh ball soup too.) Supposedly its popular with Broadway celebrities but I guess we're always so intent on the food that we've never seen any there.! However, this is not a ritzy place...at least not now. But over 70 years ago it was the hotel's grand ballroom and you can still see that "life" reflected in the ceilings, walls, and columns which are decorated like a wedding cake in white and pastels and with bas relief doodads. The chandeliers are still there too.

Service is brisk and efficient...we've had the same european accented talldrink of water waitress the past few days (she's almost as tall as the Coca Cola refrigerated cooler). The night time "cash register lady" is a good-humored straight talking woman (I like your purse, where did you get it? is it heavy? can I lift it? TJ maxx? really? here in Manhattan?) but really...try the matzoh ball soup!

Good Morning America

While in New York, Annette got up at O'dark thirty and joined Peg and Moe at the taping of Good Morning America at their Times Square Studio. Here we are with our new friends!

New York, New York

Jerry and I spent 3 days in Manhattan with Peg and Moe Cotter. We saw a preview performance of Mel Brook's new musical "Young Frankenstein" which is a MUST SEE! Especially if you liked the movie...it's very true to the movie...but even more so! We also saw a preview performance of The Farnsworth Invention with Hank Azaria. It is a serious drama about the invention of the TV by Philo Fransworth, a farm boy/whiz kid from Idaho and the birth of the radio and TV age. It is written by Aaron Sorkin (West Wing, Sports Night, etc) and is fascinating, informative and entertaining. We saw Billy Crystal and his wife (3 rows behind Jerry) and several of the MSNBC crowd there. We had dinner one night at our old favorite Ruby Foo's...good food...try the fried calamari! another night we went to Joe Allen's and had a delightful meal (still laughing about the previous nights performance of Young Frankenstein). here's a picture of Jerry and I enjoying our dinner at Joe Allen's.
